Imagine me rapping that :)
Do you ever see your little sister or brother wearing the old “My Little Pony” shirt your grandma gave to you when you were two? Then you look down at your clothes and say, “No one in this family has worn this besides me.” That is because you are the oldest, there is no older sibling to pass down clothes or toys to you, only maybe a neighbor or friend. To me, that is awesome!! When you are the oldest, it also means you’re the first-born.
Being the first-born, I definitely had an advantage. When I was little I always got huge birthday parties, filled with dozens of friends. I still get really fun parties, and I am so grateful, but now that there’s more of us, the other kids need parties too. When you are first-born, you are the first to meet mom and dad you get lot’s of attention, you are the only one to read to or put to bed. When I was little, my mom taught me sign language. I didn’t talk for months. What’s lucky about that? None of my other siblings learned. I even signed my favorite Christmas carol, “Santa Baby.” When I was about six my mom and dad took me to Hawaii for a family reunion. The other kids were too little. My parents only took me, because I was the oldest and didn’t need naps. You can’t even imagine how many pictures of me that were taken! We have some when I first said hi, when I first pointed :), you get the idea.
I like being the oldest it is fun for me. My little brother and sisters look up to me. They ask questions and advice: for things that I’ve done and now it’s their turn to do. It was fun for me to see them be born. I have amazing parents who teach me and help me. I love them so much! But I there are some rough things too about being the oldest. Stay tuned to hear about those in a day or two!
Are you the baby or in the middle? Is it the best? You better try to convince me! Or are you an oldie like me? Why do you love being the oldest?
