We spend our whole lives performing. I've performed on all sorts of stages. We perform for dance, gymnastics, sports, church...you name it. I'm going to talk specifically about Ballroom, but the idea of telling a story with your face applies to any type of performance. People want to watch you because of your face!
Ballroom dancing is a style of dance filled with drama and emotion, leading to a magnificent performance. Ballroom can tell a story of compassion, joy, celebration, or it can tell a story of emotion, sadness, or anger. The key to unlock ballroom is performance, everything needs to be sharp, precise, and vivid to the audience. The secret to unlocking success is being able to decide, should I dance like no one is watching or include my audience in every slight movement? The answer is both. If you are performing a dance excitement and joy include your audience as much as possible, but if your were performing a dance showing enchanting love, or dramatic anger, pretend you are in a empty room, the only thing you think about is what your feeling at that moment, dance like no one is there, dance like no one is watching. Another big thing is facial expressions. You should show facial expressions in every thing you do or touch, if performing a sad dramatic performance pretend touching your partners shoulder is like touching a hot stove. If you are doing a exciting and playful dance pretend there is nothing that's going to stop you. Make eye contact with your audience, with a smile. Hope these things will help.
